I usually have to pay in, but that's OK for me, because for 364 days I've used the government's money; I don't feel bad about giving it back again. But I also like to wait as long as possible before giving it bck. My personal best was 11:55 p.m. one year.
This year I waited until yesterday to even begin to do my taxes. I blew through it -- it's pretty easy if you read all the words in the booklet that pertain to you. So there I was, going happily along, when diaster struck. For some reason, whenever I added in the figure from one of my W-2s, my calculator froze. It happened three times, the time was past 10 p.m. and I was forced to go to Plan B -- do it by hand.
Luckily, it only required adding, subtracting and multiplying. Got it done, got it signed, stoppped at Pak A Sak to buy one stamp, and off we went to the Ross Street Post Office, which was busy as a bee hive. I mailed it at 10:35 p.m., not my best, but it's done for another year. Now I can start spending the government's money again!
Bruce, I always enjoy your blog and appreciate your thoughts. God bless you!
