There isn’t a brand of coffee made that will get your adrenaline flowing and your heart pumping than a near-miss traffic accident.

I was driving on Interstate 27 early Tuesday, just zoned out: My car just about knows its own way to work.

I had the Fabulous Thunderbirds rocking on the stereo and I wasn’t in any great hurry.

I guess I wasn’t paying enough attention because I came up on a series of traffic cones closing off the lane I was in.

Like a any good driver, I took my foot off the accelerator and put my blinker on to move over. I try not to use the brake whenever I can, figuring the car will slow itself down quick enough.

There was a car in the lane I needed to be in and another car behind her. The cones were coming up faster and faster, the cars in the other lane weren’t speeding up or slowing down, so at the last second I hit the brakes, letting the cars go by and pulled behind the last one, seconds before I would have wiped out a traffic cone.

The adrenaline was really pumping and I was fully awake, but I don’t think I would recommend this as an early-morning pick-me-up.
