Years ago, when I was a Hastings manager, CEO John Marmaduke made the comment that if I sat on my hands I couldn’t talk.
I grew up around Italians and Jews, and I guess the habit of gesturing wildly just rubbed off on me.
As an experiment, I sat on my hands during a conversation. I could talk, but it was very slowly and there were a lot of pauses.
I guess John was right.

I enjoy your column every week and especially liked your June 3 ditty about the cats and the bed. I have three dashounds as spoiled as your cats (if not more), and they also think my queensized bed is theirs. The like to say cross ways and at night I usually have to say "COOKIE" to get them off, and then have to beat them back to bed to get my "spot". When they come back, they mill around until they all find their place, all touching me. I try not to get up during the night as it is like being double jointed to extracate myself without disturbing them. I wouldn't trade them for the world!
