I’m surprised more police officers aren’t involved in more shootings.
If Amarillo and Canyon police officers are like the ones on TV, they have to chase a suspect and keep shouting “Stop, police” and never shoot. APD policy states an officer can fire his or her weapon only if they determine there’s probable cause that he or someone else is in danger of serious bodily harm or death.
I'd want to shoot to keep a suspect from getting away but that's not allowed by APD, CPD or any cop on TV, it seems.
When I was on guard duty in the Marine Corps, we were told to shout “halt” three times before locking and loading. If the intruder didn’t stop by the third halt we were authorized to fire a warning shot in the air and then level our weapon. I never did, but I could have.
